01 — Irish Bouzouki

Built for the session

Ultan's bouzoukis are known for their responsiveness and resonance — powerful bass response coupled with sweet, clear trebles. What distinguishes them most is the complexity of the overtones: a rich, layered tone that sits naturally in a session without overpowering it.

The most requested scale length is 660mm, though a range is available depending on whether the instrument is primarily used for accompaniment or melody playing.

While prices start at €2,500 for a bouzouki, numerous upgrades are available. These include premium soundboards, pickups, soundports and certain back & side timbers that, due to their rarity, command an additional cost. 02 — Celtic Mandolin

Rich tone, powerful projection

Ultan's mandolins typically feature a 360mm scale length and a relatively deep body — a combination that produces a rich, resonant sound with strong projection, sitting beautifully in both solo and ensemble playing.

Each mandolin is built to the player's specification, with timber choices, scale length, and finish all discussed as part of the commission process.

03 — Short Scale Bouzouki

The octave mandolin

Also known as an octave mandolin, the short scale bouzouki bridges the gap between the bouzouki and the mandolin. With its shorter scale length it offers a bright, punchy tone that sits beautifully in both melody and accompaniment.

Each instrument is built to the player's specification, with the same attention to timber selection and tonal quality as Ultan's full scale instruments.
